Team GEM came together out of a passion to create social change using a sport we loved as the vehicle. Being a small part of a young athletes journey to becoming empowered has been a privilege. We are excited to share our knowledge with you the engines behind grassroots sport, committees. Empowering you to build a more positive and inclusive club culture.
The commUNITY workshop was created from seeing a need to empower committees the same way we have empowered young athletes all across NSW.
The CommUNITY workshop is designed to give your Committee the tools to create a stronger foundation for engagement and commitment. You will the share stories, develop a better understanding of yourselves and the others you work with. Strengthen your passion, discover shared values and create a positive, compassionate and inclusive culture.
commUNITY is a 3 hour workshop delivered by Team GEM at your home ground or via a zoom
Trust
When we build trust in a committee the result is a positive culture that will in time filter out to your members and the rest of the sporting community.
Shared Stories/Belonging
As we start to build trust we create a safe environment for people to share stories about themselves. Have you ever found that when you share a story about yourself with someone, they will share a story in return? By sharing stories we discover common ground and gain an understanding behind each others motivations. The will lead deeper connections and better collaboration.
Aware
Self-awareness is the ability to tune in to our feelings, thoughts, and actions. Being able to recognise how other people perceive us. Understanding the basic traits of each personality and how as a committee you can best utilise each others strengths and acknowledge and support weaknesses.
Affirmation
Being a volunteer on a committee can sometimes be a thankless task. Not that we join for the accolades but it is nice to be acknowledged. Understanding our personal value and others we work with can open the door to effective communication.
Why
Focuses on expressing why we do what we do rather than what we do. When we lead with the why, we are showing our passions and values which have a stronger call to action than the what. At a committee or organisational level, communicating your ‘Why’ forms the basis of a strong value proposition that will differentiate you from the others.
Values
A value is something that motivates you to choose one action over another. When we create and set values we are making a choice as a committee to align our values with our actions. To align your values as a committee you need to find a shared/common set of values. Through the process of finding ‘your why’ we will help you highlight these shared values.
Together
Looks at how you can put your new shared values into action. Once you have communicated how these values can be reflected by the committee and in your roles, the next step is to put these into action. In the workshop we will introduce you to the four C’s. They will act as the framework for the committee to measure if you are putting your new shared values into action.
Inclusions

As a committee we want our values to be seen clearly in actions. By being made aware of who each other are and by understanding our differences. Knowing our why, will enable us to display our values in the way we react to each other and our members.
